KOAM MORNING NEWS TO KNOW 12-6

JOPLIN HOUSE FIRE
JOPLIN, Mo. - A fire in the North Heights neighborhood in Joplin sends one person to the hospital.  The fire broke out just before seven yesterday evening at a home at 301 South Pearl Avenue.  When officials arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the back of the home.  The injured person was transported by EMS to a local hospital with burns to the hands and face.
FREEMAN OZARK CENTER
JOPLIN, Mo. - Helping people with mental illness get the care they need is getting easier at Freeman Ozark Center.  A ribbon-cutting and open house celebrated bringing several community care  programs under one roof.  The expansion meant the addition of a teaching kitchen and laundry for patients to learn life skills, combined with screening, education and therapy programs.
GOVERNOR PARDONS
OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin has commuted the sentences of 21 Oklahoma prison inmates convicted of nonviolent offenses.  Fallin signed the pardons yesterday during an emotional ceremony at the state capitol.  Each of the 21 offenders, mostly women convicted of drug crimes were sentenced to ten or more years in prison for offenses that now carry only jail time or significantly reduced sentences.
GEORGE H.W. BUSH
HOUSTON - The body of former President George H.W. Bush arrived in Texas for a final farewell.  People lined up Wednesday night to pay their respects at the Houston church where a funeral will be held Thursday morning.  At the late president’s state funeral in Washington, he was honored as a loving family man and a life-long public servant. He will be buried on the presidential library grounds at Texas A&M University.
