Connect To Culture Seeks Funding Deadline Extension

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

We've brought you the stories on Connect to Culture and their plans for the Cornell Arts and Entertainment Complex in downtown Joplin.  They're close to their fund raising goal, but, they need a little more time.  Connect to Culture announced a bold plan last year to build a new arts and entertainment complex on the parking lot of Memorial Hall.
Emily Frankoski, Connect 2 Culture: "The community has really rallied behind the idea of this in downtown Joplin, it's just going to completely change the landscape of our city and help businesses that are already in downtown as well as give people some more confidence in locating their business downtown."
The city provided the land, but Connect to Culture had to come up with the approximately $16 million for the facility on their own.  In the Memorandum of Understanding, or MOU they had to raise at least $14 million before the end of this year.
Frankoski: "We are not feeling worried about the city council working with us, because at the end of the day, we're all working towards bettering the city of Joplin."
Connect to Culture is planning on asking the city council for an extension of upwards of six months on their fund raising goal.  Joplin Mayor Gary Shaw says he doesn't believe the council should worry about granting the extension.
Gary Shaw, Joplin Mayor: "We're dealing with some quality folks here who know what they're doing and they had a vision and a dream to do something to help Joplin and I think that they've, they're showing that they're really getting it done."
Frankoski says they're not that far from their goal.
Frankoski: "So, we're currently at $12.2 million and that's with 100 donors."
That's money that's been raised since last October.  Frankoski says they just need a short extension to meet that $14-16 million goal.  Connect to Culture will be making their presentation at the December 17th council meeting.
