Christmas Tree Farm Earns Special Honor

Updated:
SOUTHWEST CITY, MISSOURI -

The Ozark Valley Christmas Tree Farm in Southwest City has received a special honor this holiday season and a trip to see Missouri's governor.  Charity Keith is part of a seven generation family tradition on the Manning Farm just north of Southwest City.  Seven years ago they added Christmas Tree Farming to the services they provide and now, another part of that business, has earned them some top honors.
Charity Keith: "I've wanted to enter the contest for years, and never was brave enough to do so."
The farm is part of the Missouri Christmas Tree Growers Association, which is made up of Christmas tree growers, from across the state 35 of them to be exact.  Each summer they hold a meeting where members enter a Christmas tree and a Christmas wreath for the contest to provide the official tree and wreath for the capitol building in Jefferson City.
Keith : "The members voted, and ours was the winner, so we get to go meet the governor and present the wreath to him this Christmas season."
Marc Lingard has been bringing his family to Ozark Valley for the past five years.  When he heard of their big award, he says he wasn't surprised.
Marc Lingard: "I think they deserve it, they've always been real nice people to my family as well as everybody else I've seen."
And for Keith, she says the whole process has been a family venture.
Keith: "My kids are part of this, my husband of course, we all work together to grow the trees, to make the wreath, to run the whole thing, we're doing this together."
And she say she's proud to represent all of Southwest Missouri.  The official ceremony recognizing Ozark Valley will be December 13th in Jefferson City.
