Spiva Park Tree Lighting

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

Twas the hour before the tree lighting and all through the park, several creatures were stirring, probably even, a mouse.
The lights were hung by the parks department with care, in the hopes that Saint Nick, soon would be there.  While Mayor Gary Shaw may not be the jolly old elf himself, he substituted quite nicely, officially lighting the big tree in Spiva Park.
Dale Crouch: "I love Christmas and I love that Joplin does this every year to bring everyone together!"
The ceremony was coupled with a brilliant light show timed with some holiday classics.  Dale Crouch decided to celebrate in style...
Dale: "I believe you should dance when no one's looking dance with people looking, life is just about enjoying stuff."
Even Santa got involved along with all the good little girls and boys.
Mila: "This is my favorite part of Christmas!"
Mila there is Jesika Downs' daughter.  She's brought here here four the last four years, which is how old Mila is.
Jesika Downs: "I love it!  We look for it every year.  This is my first time that she gets to be up here, usually we're cuddling in the back."
And then there's Andrew Crouch, for him, Christmas holds a special place in his heart.
Andrew Crouch: "Life is fragile, and every memory you share with life with your family and your friends is a memory."
Words, to live by.
