Hundreds of Students Visit Cato, KS to Learn 1860's History

Kids learn by stepping back in time..

Six hundred 4th and 5th graders visited Cato, Kansas Friday.  The learned about life for kids  in the 1860's at the old school house where they found blacksmiths and branding demonstrations.. Presenters also demonstrated flint knapping, Students could also play frontier era games and take wagon rides.. While there was fun involved,  teachers thought the  kids  could take away something about students of old.

Teacher Kim Curren said, "I hope that they learn how school was back then compared to what it is now and how much harder it was for kids to get to school. And maybe they will learn a new appreciation for what they have in their schools today."
The event was sponsored by the Cato historical society. Cato is located about a mile north of Arcadia in Crawford county and just south of the Bourbon county line.
