Yesterday was the first day for ACA enrollment. It ends on December 15th. Like last year, you have only 45 days to enroll in the marketplace. Uninsured consumers will *no longer* be fined for *not* using the program. The Trump administration made "short term" insurance plans available earlier this year.
ADDICTIONS AND MENTAL HEALTH GRANT
A more than $200-Thousand dollar grant is helping target those with addictions and mental health issues. Grant monies created a position for Teddy Steen. She surveys individuals when they arrive at jail and before trial to see if they have co-occurring disorders. Once qualified Steen connects them with residential recovery or treatment programs and works with other court officers to direct cases to the appropriate treatment courts.
Local volunteers are helping Watered Gardens, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping the homeless, get their newest building up and running. Watered Garden officials say they've outgrown their "Worth Shop," a small area where the homeless can work to earn what they need. Work began in January on a bigger building, but helpers from church groups and even liberty utilities is getting the project moving along.
The president rallied his supporters in Columbia, Missouri last night -- and today, he'll travel to Huntington, West Virginia and Indianapolis as part of his final push to turn out his base for the midterm elections Tuesday. In the final week of campaigning, President Trump is headlining 11 events in 8 states where races are neck and neck. He'll be back in Missouri on November 5th to host a rally in Cape Girardeau at 9:00 p.m.
