The family of the 8-year old girl killed in a hit and run sues the truck driver and his company. A Walter chambers filed the wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of 8-year old Destiny Chambers, who died as she crossed Newman road heading for a school bus. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday against 49-year old Lance Lee of Dekalb, Illinois, and his employer USF Holland.
MIRACLE LEAGUE FIRE
A suspicious fire destroys equipment used by the Joplin Miracle League. A shed that held bats, specialized balls, t-shirts and the leagues mascot suit, burned late Saturday night around 11:30. The fire chief estimates that the fire caused around $7,500 of damage but league board members say it could be more.
DELAYED SCHOOL START DATE
Oklahoma Lawmakers are exploring whether to schools later in the year to cut back on utility costs. Lawmakers launched a legislative study that said school districts spend money on cooling schools that could be used for the classrooms. The group says electricity bills peak in July and August when many districts start classes.
President Trump will hold a ceremony at the White House for his new Supreme Court Justice tonight. Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts and Retired Justice Anthony Kennedy over the weekend. Republicans and Democrats are hoping his contentious confirmation motivates their supporters to get to the polls in November's midterm elections.
The National Transportation Safety Board is in upstate New York this morning, investigating the deadliest auto crash in recent history. 20 people are dead after a stretch limousine blew through a stop sign and crashed into a parked SUV. A relative told CBS news that the victims in the limo had been on a wine tour, celebrating a birthday.
