Area Pets Receive Blessing

Updated:

Sunday is a holy day for many, but today some brought pets to church.

This is the 5th year United Methodist Church has hosted its "Blessing of the Animals" worship service.

Members got their pets blessed and expressed thanks for God's creation through song and prayer.

Churches around the world honor Saint Francis of Assisi who started the blessing of pets nearly 800 years ago.

Senior Pastor Mark Chambers says it's a time to reflect on the blessing pets play in our lives.

"Pets are so much a part of people's lives. When you love them, they love you back and they are a part of God's creation."

Chambers says that the most unusual pet he's ever blessed was a hamster.

And, you know, it was nice because it was many of the team members that I'd worked with before," explained Denton. Denton has been working with the Disaster Me...More >>

As Michael Chang welcomes a group of eager visitors into his new home, he takes a moment to reflect on the work it took to get here. "It was kind of a hassle. We had like a bunch of ten people from different locations, and so we all kind of helped each other move in," explained Chang. That kind of teamwork is what this new student campus ministry housing is all about as Chang explains the purpose of Koinonia, a club at MSSU.  "We're a non-denominational mi...More >>
