Search for Suspect in Newton County Ends

Updated:
NEOSHO, MISSOURI -

UPDATE 8:45a.m.

Newton County Sheriff's Office says the suspect Walter Blount is in custody.  He was arrested this morning.  No other details are available at this time.  We will update the story as more information is released.

10/2/18

A manhunt is underway in Newton County, Missouri for a suspect involved in a police pursuit.
Authorities say it began a week ago, and more than 200 miles away in Moore, Oklahoma, when Walter Blount escaped police custody there.

Authorities say Blount is possibly armed - and is considered dangerous.
They say Blount managed to escape the custody of the Moore, Oklahoma Police Department about a week ago, and has been on the run since.
Video from the Moore police department, which had Blount in custody on September 26th, shows him escaping the police cruiser there.

After his escape authorities say he took off in a stolen vehicle and ultimately made it to Neosho.
Neosho officers tell us they approached Blount because they had reason to believe he had been using stolen credit cards in Neosho.
They say Blount took off in a stolen pick-up truck.

David Kennedy, Neosho Police Chief: "Neosho was probably involved in the pursuit for about two minutes and then we terminated, the pursuit was later picked back up out in the county, then deputies pursued the subject and he actually crashed out here on Otter Road and fled into the woods."

Now again, at this time, the suspect has not been caught, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is assisting in the search.

The $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot has many rushing out to buy those tickets.  But, there's other ways to play the lottery, and in Missouri, that funding goes to education.     But, where is that money used, and how does it benefit local schools?  For districts across the state, they all get a portion of proceeds from Missouri lottery ticket sales.  That's any lottery ticket sold across the state.  Those funds, totaling ar...More >>

It's that time of year again, the fall smells, pumpkin spice everything, and most importantly, the annual Maple Leaf Parade in Carthage and for as much preparation that the city puts in for the big event, there's one neighborhood that puts in even more, for their friends, family, and in between.  Brandi Ensor and her friends put the final touches on the outdoor decorations along Grand Avenue.

    Update On Block 22 Restaurants

The long awaited Block22 in Pittsburg opened to students recently to allow them to move in to the newly created lofts.     However, restaurants were expected to be opened by now, but, they're not, leaving some wondering what's going on.   When you look at the Block22 restaurant space, there's not much to look at.  Even though, originally, residents were told, they'd be ready by now.
