Tash, Westmoreland Return to Lead Joplin Offense in 2018

Updated:

Monday is day one of practice for high school spring sports in Missouri.

The Joplin Eagles got on the field Monday morning for practice #1. The Eagles finished last season with an 8-2 overall record, winning the Ozark Conference title in their final season in the league. This season Joplin is switching leagues and will be playing in the COC, facing teams like Webb City, Carl Junction and Carthage.

Joplin has a ton of offensive talent returning this season. Their quarterback Blake Tash is back for his junior year. As a sophomore, Tash threw for more than 2,000 yards and was responsible for 17 touchdowns. His biggest weapon from last year, WR Zach Westmoreland, is also back for his junior year.

Last season Westmoreland was a 1st team All-Ozark Conference player and a 2nd team All-State selection. As a sophomore he racked up 900+ receiving yards, 300+ rushing yards and scored 17 total touchdowns.

"Zach is a special player," says Joplin head coach Curtis Jasper, "We were able to line him up in several different positions last year, and he made plays all over the place. But you also have to take your hat off to the offensive line. We return four starters there, we have a quarterback who completed 75 percent of his passes with only three interceptions and we have other receivers that can get open, that can keep people from double-teaming Zach."

The Eagles will open up the season on August 24th, on the road against Willard.
