Outdoor Worship Service Draws Crowd

Updated:

The Joplin community came together to worship in a church without walls as this year's Emancipation Park Days events draw to a close, and people like Ron Bonner say that it's a beautiful sight to see because of the fresh faces it leads in to faith.

"It brings new people, those people that you don't normally see in church on Sunday mornings, they're here, they're here in the park to worship and praise God," says Bonner.

Bonner has attended the past three annual outdoor worship services and says that the diversity in the crowd is inspiring.

"It's just exciting to see people come together of all denominations," he states.

And there are several denominations present, explains Pastor Samuel Nero Jr.

"We have Shiloh. We have Unity Baptist Church, The Light. We have Saint Paul's United Methodist Church. We have Haley Chapel. We have Trinity Baptist Church. We have all kinds of different denominations," says Nero Jr.

What unites them, though, is their faith in God.

"We serve only one God, and when we come together and serve Him, then everything else falls in place," says Bonner.

Nero Junior says that talks are in place for the outdoor worship to happen more than just once a year and he's confident in the expansion of the event.

"Oh, I believe it's going to continue to grow because we're going to continue to add more churches, more denominations, and we like to think that these people that came today are gonna be the mouthpiece to help extend this and expand this to bigger and greater things," he says.

And that's something that Bonner can get behind.

"It's just a good experience for everyone to just come together and see each other and fellowship one-on-one," he says.
