New Missouri Governor Mike Parson visited Carthage Tuesday as part of a nine-city statewide listening tour.
The governor toured and State Senator Ron Richard toured the Flex-O-Later manufacturing facility and hear from community leaders.
Parson says he's visiting various communities to better understand the types of challenges they face.  He says he's looking at such issues as infrastructure, workforce, economic development and the urban and rural divide.
Former Governor Eric Greitens had proposed funding cuts to public universities and colleges, but Parson indicated he sees education spending as a worthy investment.
"You can't go out here and talk about workforce, job skills at the same time say we are cutting down on the education institutions that is going to get these young men and young women ready for the market," Parson said. "So I think there will be a huge emphasis  with working on education."
Parson indicated education funding would remain a high priority of his administration.
"We are funding education back you will see more funding in education I believe as long as the economy stays good," Parson said.
In addition to Carthage, Parson's tour Tuesday included visits to Springfield, Branson, St. Joseph, and Kansas City.
The tour was to continue Wednesday with visits to Columbia, Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, and St. Louis.
