Spiva Center for the Arts Holds Film Competition

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

Films crews all over the area are hard at work on short films.. and they only have 48 hours to do it.

It's all part of the 9th annual Film Spiva 48-hour film competition.

More than 10 teams are spending only 48 hours creating 3 minute short films.

Each will be shown - and judged by people in the community next week.

Organizers say it's all about fun and creativity.

Brian Mehrens, Director "Permanent Collection": "It's also really exciting to see how people respond to something that you've originally just had in your head and you somehow are hoping that the way you presented it is a way that the audience enjoys and finds engaging. To see your product on a, especially on like a big movie screen, is really fun and exciting too, so we're looking forward to that."

Shaun Conroy, Spiva Center for the Arts: "We try to celebrate all the arts as much as possible. The visual arts are the main thing that we do here, but ya know, film, dance poetry. So, we're just trying to encourage people to keep their creative juices flowing."

The films will be shown at the Bookhouse Cinema on Broadway Street.

Showings start at 5:30 on June 14-th.
