Students Today Leaders Forever

These students are spending their spring break raking, shoveling and weeding,in efforts to leave Joplin a better place.
They're on a "Pay it Forward" tour.

"What it is is we travel to a different city slash state every day and do a service project in the morning and tourism in the afternoon" says Angela Severino.

It's an alternative way for these Iowa State University students to spend their spring break.

"It's a really good way because you're helping out other people instead of thinking about yourself" says Ashley Neske, who's on her first trip with Students Today Leaders Forever.

"We are helping the local food bank make more produce for people and we're making beds for them to be able to plant more produce" says Severino.

Gardeners for Crosslines Ministries will be planting all sorts of produce like watermelon, green beans and okra in the 58 new garden beds these students made.

"We have a running to do list that we sometimes don't get completed. So when these students come in, they just help us get those projects done" says Lyn Heikkla from Crosslines Ministries.

When the produce is collected, it will provide a healthy meal for the ministry's clients.

"They are eating healthy, rather than the processed food that's not good for them"

And when it comes to one of the students, it really is true that when you help others, you are also helping yourself.

"As human beings, when we help each other or help the community, it does bring a sense of peace inside of you" says Rirshab Kinnerkar.

It was a perfect outcome for Kinnerkar and the rest of Students Today Leaders Forever.
