KOAM MORNING NEWS TO KNOW 12-6

EAGLE PICHER FOR SALE

  • A fixture in the Joplin community for more than 100 years is up for sale. A human resources representative for Eagle Picher Technologies confirmed the news to KOAM on Tuesday.  The company, which is owned by Vectra, formerly OM Group, has about 700 workers at its facilities in Joplin, Pittsburg and Seneca.  Since June of 2016, 260 employees have been let go.

JOPLIN STABBING

  • Joplin police are investigating a stabbing that happened late Monday night.  They say it happened shortly after 11pm at a home on the 900 block of South Monroe Avenue.  Two adults were involved and taken to the hospital with significant injuries.  Police believe this was an isolated incident.

MIAMI K-9 UNIT

  • The Miami Police Department welcomes a new member to its force.  Niko is a 15-month-old German Sheppard who will be a part of the department’s new K-9 unit.  The MPD bought and trained Niko with funds provided by an anonymous donor.  It's the department's first K-9 unit.  Niko reports for duty today.

JERUSALEM ANNOUNCEMENT

  • President Trump is expected to make a major announcement on Jerusalem from the White House today.  Senior administration officials tell CBS News the president will announce that the U.S. recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will also direct the State Department to begin moving the U.S. Embassy to the city.  The State Department has already warned government employees and their families to be on alert for violence.
