Early morning fire leads to the arrest of a Neosho man. According to the press release from Joplin Police and Fire Department crews responded to the Econolodge at 3510 S Range Line, Tuesday November 21, 2017 around 4:30a.m..
When a Joplin Police Officer arrived on scene he noticed smoke coming from 2nd floor on the north side of the building. The hotel staff reported a man renting the room was destroying the room and throwing things out the window.
The officer approached the room as a man jumped out the room through broken glass and ran away. Officers took the 36 year old from Neosho in custody a short time after.
JPD and hotel staff began evacuating the hotel when fire crews arrived. Fire crews were able to get the fire out quickly. The fire was contained to room #225. JFD was assisted by Redings Mill Fire Department, METS, Newton County Ambulance.
Joplin Police are filing charges with the Newton County Prosecutor for Arson in the 1st degree.
