Veterans Health Fair in Joplin Reminds About Care and Understanding

Updated:
Joplin, MO -

A health fair today showed care to people who sometimes are forgotten.  The Veterans Benefits Expo was held at Joplin's Memorial Hall.  Forty-seven booths were set up, providing our military men and women information about various services.

Some of those services include financial, housing, employment opportunities, and insurance options.  Free health screenings were provided, compliments of the VA of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

"A lot of the veterans, they served their time, they got out of the military, and they still don't understand that the veterans hospitals... there's a lot of things available to veterans," says Jack Dickson, a veteran with the American Legion Post 13.

"They just recognize veterans," says Lester Shuey, a U.S. Navy veteran.  "They realize what veterans have done for our country.  They just try to get out the information that they need."

"So much of it deals with medical care," says Shuey.  "There's a lot of them who are just not aware of what's available."

"A lot of times, they don't know where to go.  Here, if one place can't help them, there's somebody else who can refer them and help them find a place for their needs," says Richard Huskey with S.M.B Home Loan Center.

"Jobs.  There's people looking for jobs, and there's certain companies, and several are represented here, for veterans," says Dickson.

Today's expo was free and sponsored by Joplin's American Legion Post 13.
