Updated:
BAXTER SPRINGS, KANSAS -

On Sunday afternoon at 12:30 pm on March 20th members of Girl Scout Troop #71362 had a booth set up in front of the Dollar Store located in Baxter Springs. The Girl Scouts were selling cookies for their annual fundraiser when 81 year old June Vonwedell lost control of her SUV in front of the store.  Ms. Vonwedell's vehicle ran into the booth and injured one young scout and two den mothers. One of the den mothers attempted to grab the young scout to pull her out of the way of the vehicle, but was struck before she could reach the child.  Both den mothers were treated for minor injuries but unfortunately the young girl scout that was struck suffered more serious injuries and was transported to Freeman hospital in Joplin and later life flighted to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.  The young scout has been reported in stable condition at this time. No explained cause for the loss of control of Ms. Vonwedell's vehicle has been determined by law enforcement at this time.
