Joplin Humane Society filled to capacity

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

Filled to capacity.  That's the case at the Animal Adoption and Resource Center in Joplin.

Spring has sprung early and several litters of puppies arrived at the shelter this month along with other stray and unwanted animals.

Just on Tuesday, the shelter took in 49 animals and only adopted out 8.

The total for February is 374 animals.

Officials say they work with rescue groups, but the number going out is far less than the animals coming into the shelter.

"Every cage is full," says shelter manager Lysa Buehler.  "We're moving  them out as quickly as we can."

Shelter operators urge those who have lost animals to come look for them.

Descriptions of missing animals often aren't exact.

Right now it's just $14 to adopt and less for sponsored pets.
