Fundraising efforts kickoff for Project Graduation in Joplin

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

Project Graduation in Joplin is scheduled for May 20, the evening of graduation.  It's an all night event meant to give graduates a drug, alcohol and smoke-free environment.

Fundraising begins this Saturday with Trivia Night at Joplin High School.  It starts at 7 p.m. and is $10 per person.

Students will also sell 50/50 tickets during high school basketball games on February 7.

And a silent auction is set for the homecoming games on February 17.

The committee says fundraising has been somewhat tricky this year.

"So many businesses and individuals have donated for tornado relief funds it's been difficult, so we have tried to be careful who we have approached for donations," says fundraising chair Debbie Franks.  "Happy to say we have a great community and a very generous one.  Donations have been coming in.  We still have a ways to go."

The committee says you can also adopt a student for project graduation for about $60 per student.
