City workers from across southwest Missouri come to Joplin for a Missouri Department of Transportation workshop.
The meeting focused on ways to develop new transit systems for the elderly, handicapped, and financially strapped.
The workshop was held inside Joplin's Chamber of Commerce building on Thursday.
One MoDOT worker who works with state and federal grants says one of the first steps towards getting a new transit system is word of mouth.
"A lot of times it takes a sponsor, or a person that's active and influential in the community, they make a persuasive argument for those individuals that have mobility challenges and people listen to that, it resonates, and they respond to it," says Steve Billings of MoDOT.
MoDOT's workshop was part of six others across the state.
A tribute to the men and women in our community who have loyally served in the Armed Forces.
