Joplin firefighters are investigating how a building was set ablaze early Monday afternoon at 2319 South main.
Joplin's fire chief says people across the street noticed smoke coming from the abandoned building.
When firefighters arrived they found a mattress on the second floor on fire and parts of the home's attic also on fire.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters are looking into if a homeless person started the fire.
